ABOUT ME

At the core of my work is a belief that people heal through authentic connection, self-understanding, and feeling genuinely seen.

I'm Dr. Emily Hunt, a San Francisco-based licensed psychologist with a doctorate in counseling psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University.

I primarily work with adults, including young adults, and those in their 30s and 40s who are navigating the full complexity of their lives, from relationships and burnout to identity and major life transitions. I also work with a select number of teenagers, and that work holds a special place in my practice. Adolescents are where I began clinically, and the years I spent working with teens and families at Columbia, UCSF, and Stanford shaped the relational and developmental lens that informs everything I do today.

I love being a therapist because I get to witness the resilience people bring into therapy every day, even when they feel exhausted, anxious, heartbroken, overwhelmed, or unsure of themselves. I believe therapy is not about judging yourself or forcing yourself to become someone different. Rather, it is about developing a deeper understanding of your emotions, relationships, and patterns with greater awareness and compassion, while building the tools to navigate life more effectively.

My approach is warm, relational, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I integrate insight-oriented work with practical skill-building from approaches including CBT, DBT, EFT, and mindfulness-based therapies to support both acceptance and meaningful change. I bring a strong clinical foundation into a therapy style that is thoughtful, collaborative, and tailored to each person's unique experiences and goals.

One of the most rewarding parts of this work is watching people create meaningful change in how they relate to themselves and others. Over time, many of my clients begin to feel more grounded, more connected, and more confident in building lives that actually feel like theirs.

Outside of the therapy room, you can usually find me on the tennis court, in a Pilates class, or hiking somewhere with a good view. I'm always searching for the best strawberry matcha latte in San Francisco, love exploring new restaurants, and unwind at the end of a long day with our dogs and a good reality TV show.

I believe therapy should feel collaborative, thoughtful, and tailored to who you are as a whole person. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to healing or personal growth, which is why I work closely with each client to understand their unique experiences, relationships, identities, and goals.
